Sweet Comfort Bakery and Cafe in Port Washington is good for your sweet tooth!
My sweet tooth keeps begging me to take it back to Sweet Comfort Bakery and Cafe…this wonderful addition to Port Washington is located at 5B Irma Avenue in Port Washington. It is on the north side of Irma off of Main Street diagonal from the Port Washington train station.
My fabulous colorist, Stephanie shared a rocky road brownie with me while having my color done and it was so rich and yummy I could not finish it! I had to get over there and check out what other goodies they offer…what a wonderful new discovery!
In addition to wonderful baked goods, they offer great coffee drinks too. And, the atmosphere is wonderful. The kind of place you want to me your girlfriends for a cup of coffee after you have the kids off to school, or if you are lucky enough to – take the Sunday papers and stay for a while. I stopped in last Saturday afternoon after a long day of showing houses and bought treats for the whole family. I only wished I could be the guy in the photo lingering over the paper! Or the gal in the back waiting to meet her interior designer to go over samples. I did not want to leave the warmth, the aromas or the wonderful soft music in the background.
The location is great…if you are taking the train in the morning, it is just a hop skip and a jump from the Port Washington station of the LIRR.
According to their flyer, everything is made from scratch. And, what is happening back in the kitchen is as special as the atmosphere. Men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities are working with the pastry chef and a job coach. How great is that? Their tag line is “Sweet tastes with a social mission”.
The bakery is owned by Community Mainstreaming Enterprises, Inc and affiliate of Community Mainstreaming Associates a non-profit agency that provides services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and has operated group homes in the Port Washington area for 27 years.
This place is wonderful and yet another great thing about living in the Manhasset/Port Washington area! Anyone’s sweet tooth calling? I will meet you there anytime and the coffee is on me!
