Manhasset and Port Washington Homeowners: Time to contact the Tax Man

Image courtesy of sdmania at FreeDigitalPhotos.netIf you live in Manhasset or Port Washington, now is the time to file for a Nassau county property tax assesment review…sometimes you hear people call this process “grieving their taxes”.  Actually, you are appealing the assessment that is used as part of the formula to calculate your property taxes.  The period to do this is January 2 – March 1st.

You can do it yourself – online via this link:

Or, you can hire a lawyer or company to do it for you.  They will keep a portion of any reduction they may secure on your behalf – that may be easier for you.  But, you can do it yourself online. The link above also takes you to a place where the county answers frequently asked questions.  I think you will find this info usefu.

Every year, you have to file in order to be reviewed to lower your assessment.  If you did it last year, and you want to be reviewed this year, you need to reapply.  Many homeowners don’t realize it is not an automatic process.
